The oil in the hydraulic circuit is like the lifeblood of the equipment. If you were getting a blood transfusion, you would make sure that what you put in was clean and sterile. When I go into the field, I see people pouring lube into a dirty old container. They will leave the fill cap off. This is simply inattention to detail. All you need is just a bit of common sense. Make sure you wipe the cap before you take it off and make sure you use clean containers and keep your oil covered.
